Instrument of Appointment, No. 18 ied by the Office of the hai-chong District Magistrato to Chanh Ngoh Oh, Captain of the Guard Band of the 25 Villages of the Eastern Section:

Whereas the joint outablishment of a Gard band by the 25 Villagos of the Eastern Section has boon reported to the Military & Civil Governors uk to the Amoy lao-yin for auction.

And whereas the office of Captain is very important, and erunot be satisfactorily filled by my one who does not commend

the confidence of the public;

And whereas you, the headman of the asid section, havo always performed your duties zealously maid are therefore suitable to fill the aid office of Captain;

Now therefore be it know that, having mado the unconsnry reports, I hereby instruct and appoint you forthwith to numme the said office, the duties of which you should carry out diligently without discredit to this appointmnt.
